They had a home built on the Strawberry Hill sub-division and were active members of the Astoria Golf and Country Club when they spent time at their coastal home. Many old time members remember him as a active golfer and promoter of AGCC.

Clatsop County Historical Society Internet Archive and all other digital history now on line on the CCHS digital library.

The Clatsop County Historical Society (CCHS)maintains an Archive and Research Library in the Heritage Museum which offers researchers a unique resource documenting the evolution of Clatsop County History. These are currently mostly available for free on the new CCHS web site. We have cross linked to their digital library from the history section of the Surf Pines Association Web site for your viewing pleasure. All items in the internet archive is in searchable PDF format that can help in searching for information.

These include a 30 minute video presentation we made at the 50th anniversary of the Surf Pines Association in 2019 and another from a Power Point presentation at the TNT (Thursday Night Talks) at Fort George on the history of the House with the Blue roof, situated at the top of Strawberry Hill at the north end of Surf Pines.

History of the Astoria Underground and how it affected the city.

In December 1923 a fire broke out in the back of a hotel on the south side of what is now Marine between 11th and 12th ST. It burnt almost 17 city blocks of the commercial heart of Astoria. Much of the damage was because most of downtown was located on extended docks over the river. As a result the fire went under the roads and made the fire worse. As Astoria rebuilt they realized that they needed to fill in the area where downtown was located using a new concept called chair walls.

Surf Pines is located in NW Oregon between Warrenton and Gearhart, near Seaside and Astoria. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west and Sunset Lake on the east.

In 2019 we did a presentation for the TNT (Thursday Night Talks) for the Clatsop County Historical society about the story behind the infamous House with the Blue Tile Roof in Surf Pines at the north end of Surf Pines.

In 2018, a huge Aberdeen, Washington fire gutted their Armory Building which housed the local historical museum. It burned thousands of irreplaceable documents and artifacts. None of the material had been scanned or digitized as historical backup.

Our members only area is for current registered members who are residents of Surf Pines. If this is your first time to our new site, you will need to request a login to enter the members only area.

Welcome to Surf Pines

Surf Pines is a gated community, located on the northern Oregon Coast between Warrenton and Gearhart, near Astoria and Seaside. Surf Pines is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west and Sunset Lake on the east. Two gated entrances provide access to Surf Pines, one at Surf Pines Lane on Highway 101 north of Gearhart and one near Sunset Lane on Highway 101 south of Astoria and Warrenton. The rural setting of Surf Pines abounds in natural beauty for its residents and local wildlife, such as elk, deer, pheasants, sea gulls, and eagles.
